Missing Teeth Replaced With Dental Implants
There are many people with missing teeth, the reason can be anything. Some people lose teeth either due to old age, gum disease, decay or due to trauma. Reason can be anything, but it is very crucial to replace the missing teeth, both for functional and aesthetic reasons. Some of the common treatments that are used in dentistry for missing teeth today are fixed bridges or a denture. But, dental implants are becoming very popular treatment these days for missing teeth because dental implants tend to offer long term solution to the dental patients, preserve the surrounding healthy tooth tissue and also decelerate bone loss.
Dental implants are the artificial replacement or substitute for root portion of natural tooth and it is typically fixed into the pre-drilled socket in your jaw bone so as to provide support to bridge or crown or to secure the denture in place firmly. The implants are made out of titanium, it is a material that is accepted by our bone and easily gets mingled with the bone tissue.
We at Dr. Kathuria’s Multispeciality Dental Clinic always assess the health of your gums and teeth before performing the treatment procedure. During the test we find out the oral health and if we find any sign of infection or gum disease, then we treat the disease prior to dental implant. We also perform CT-Scan and x-rays so as to access the quality of jaw bone and also to check the anatomical structure of the surrounding. Dental implant is mainly carried out under local anesthesia.
An incision is made in the gum tissue where the implant will be fixed and it is lifted so that the dentist can drill the area to make a small hole in the jawbone where the implant will be located. After drilling the dentists fix the implant tightly in the socket and then the gum tissue is stitched back. The dentists may also perform bone grafting if they find insufficient bone material to hold the implant.
After the implant placed properly, it is generally left for 3-6 months, so that it can heal and mingle with the jaw bone. Once the bone tissue starts growing it will automatically anchor itself into the microscopic rough surface of the dental implant. During the healing period the patient need to wear temporary bridges or denture so as to protect the implant from damages. Besides, the patient needs to visit the clinic at the regular interval of time for check ups.
